Announcing NEW MonitorPro User - SOGAMA
EHS Data Ltd is pleased to announce the successful implementation of their world-class environmental data monitoring software, MonitorPro, into the Spanish waste management company SOGAMA.
SOGAMA is a public company responsible for the municipal solid waste (MSW) produced in the Northern Spanish region of Galicia. Their business model applies the principles of the Waste Hierarchy and Environmental and Human Health Protection; and rigorously follows the European guidelines.
The energy recovery of the non-recyclable fraction plays the lead role here with its 50 MWe waste-to-energy plant, featuring two circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boilers. Apart from the thermal plant, SOGAMA comprises a refuse-derived-fuel (RDF) elaboration plant, a cogeneration plant for the MSW’s gross fraction drying, a packaging sorting facility, and three landfills (for non-hazardous, hazardous and inert waste) as the process’s tail end.
Moreover, the company has approached a project to expand its facilities with a new material recovery plant with the ultimate aim of giving an optimum treatment to all the waste received, multiplying by four its contribution to recycling, and reducing the deposit of waste in landfill to the minimum.
Zero technical landfilling has been set as a goal for the year 2020 in SOGAMA. As a result, the company anticipates, in 15 years, the fulfillment of one of the main objectives of the European Parliament in the field of waste: limiting the use of landfill by the Member States to 10% by 2035.
